So, clearly most of us think ‘health’ is pretty important. And if you’re like most people you’ll probably also claim that your health is one of your most valuable assets. Yet, also like most people, you’re likely to get so caught up in the busyness of your day-to-day life and doing the things you need to do to support your health gets relegated to the ‘If-I-Get-Time’ list. Do you ever stop to really think about how your ongoing habit of downgrading important health-generating activities is not only shaping your life now…but also your health destiny?

What is your health destiny?
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare the outlook for your health is a bit grim. Consider that almost 10% of Aussie kids 0 – 14 years have three or more chronic (long-term) diseases with this figure increasing to more than 80% for those aged 65 years and over. Examples of these chronic diseases include asthma, osteoarthritis, depression, type II diabetes, cancer, heart disease and obesity. Sadly these chronic lifestyle diseases are now so commonplace that we have a tendency to become complacent and accept that poor health is just an expected consequence of “bad luck” or “bad genes” or “bad germs” or even “that’s just the way it is”. Perhaps surprisingly there is little to no good science to support that any of these reasons are in fact true!

As a human you are supposed to enjoy a long active and healthy life. And then drop dead! In fact, there is general consensus that you should get a good 115 – 120 years before your final demise. Yet for almost all of us this is not what’s going to happen. More than likely, if you keep putting attending to your health on the back-burner, you are going to suffer the all-too-common steady and rapid decline in your health as each decade passes.

Why are you likely to end up suffering three or more chronic lifestyle diseases at 65 rather than experiencing the joy and happiness of a healthy, strong body and an active, fun lifestyle?
